Анализ особенностей отношения современников к Карлу V свидетельствует, что в период его правления мы имеем дело со случайными и конъюнктурными отклонениями от нормы, которые современники пытались не замечать и даже оправдывать в своих сочинениях. Возможно, в дальнейшем накопление таких прецедентов может вести к качественным изменениям во взглядах общества на организацию войны и роль правителя в ней, однако даже история наследников Карла V показывает, что для этого потребуется еще много времени.
